To put a <a title=\"Pappu Zebra to create traffic awareness\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/kerala-police-says-pappu-zebra-to-create-traffic-awareness\/\" target=\"_blank\">leash on this problem<\/a>, 150 fully automated over-speed and red-light violation detection systems are being installed at eight accident-prone areas across the State.<\/p>\n<p>The system is implemented by Keltron at a cost of Rs 40 crore. These selected stretches have a rate of over 700 people killed in about 5000 accidents.<\/p>\n<p>Kovalam-Kottiyam, Venjaramood-Chenganoor,Mannuthi-Valayar,Shakthikulangara-Ambalapuzha, Alappuzha-Changanaserry,Kodungalloor-Iringalakuda, Trichur-Kuttipuram and Palakkad-Malapuram are the stretches focused.<\/p>\n<p>Over-speed and red light violation detection systems have already been set up on a small scale along the Kovalam-Kollam and Cherthala-Vytilla routes. On a daily basis, about 250 to 300 traffic offences are being detected using these systems.
