Microsoft says it\u2019s a complete &#8220;reimagining of the Windows OS&#8221; and it has an entirely different look from its predecessor, Windows 7. Designed with touch in mind, Windows 8 will support a wide range of devices, including touch- and stylus-based smartphones and tablet PCs as well as desktop and laptop machines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t call it Metro. Call it &#8216;Windows 8&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The main difference between Windows 8 and windows 7 is the &#8220;Start screen interface&#8221;. Microsoft dumped the classic \u2018Start button \u2018and introduced a home screen with colorful array of tiles, which can feature updated information from the applications, making it look similar to a \u201cWindows Phone 7 devices\u201d. Earlier the tile design was called &#8220;Metro&#8221; by Microsoft, now they are calling the design &#8220;Windows User Interface.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Microsoft&#8217;s Own App Store<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><\/strong>Just like Apple and Google, <strong>Windows 8 also has its own &#8216;App Store&#8217;<\/strong>. You can download your favorite apps right onto your devices and the downloaded apps from the store will be shown on your &#8216;Home Screen&#8217;. Tapping on an app icon will launch the App.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3443\" title=\"Windows 8 app store\" src=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/files\/2012\/10\/windows-8-app-store.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although<em> windows App store<\/em> is relatively new, there are already a fairly substantial number of apps available in the store, including Netflix and Box. For India, there is a wide range of immersive, free and paid apps including MakeMyTrip, BookMyShow, JustEat, Burrp, Goibibo, Hindustan Times, Bharat Matrimony, ICICI Bank iMobile, ICICIDirect, MapmyIndia, Yahoo Cricket, and Zovi.<\/p>\n<p>The new Windows devices will be running one of two different versions of Windows: Windows 8 and Windows RT. Windows 8 for desktop PC and Laptops and Windows RT for tablets and smart phones.<\/p>\n<p>Windows RT (Run Time) is optimized to run on tablets running on ARM chips, which are mobile chips similar to what you might find in your phone. The Windows RT can only run apps that are downloaded from the Windows App Store. Windows 8 can run apps downloaded from the App store as well as the ones that you may already use on your Windows 7 PC.<\/p>\n<p>Note- Microsoft&#8217;s Surface tablet also will be coming in two versions, one running Windows RT and one <a title=\"Lumia 920 and 820: Is the world ready for Windows 8?\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/lumia-920-and-lumia-820-smart-enough\/\">running Windows 8<\/a>. Make sure you are having the correct version of the operating system you want, if you are planning to buy one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>System Requirements and Upgrading<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3444\" title=\"Windows 8 Home Screen\" src=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/files\/2012\/10\/windows-8-pictures.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"288\" \/><\/p>\n<p>System requirements for Windows 8 are same as that of Windows 7.So if you have a PC running Windows 7, then you can easily upgrade to Windows 8. Microsoft claims; the upgrading will dramatically improve the computer\u2019s performance. More over upgrading will reduce the use of memory, making it boot faster and improves computer\u2019s battery life.<\/p>\n<p>There are 2 primary versions for Windows 8- \u2018Windows 8 Pro\u2019 and \u2018Windows 8\u2019.
