It aims to upgrade <a href=\"http:\/\/entecity.com\" target=\"_blank\">Thiruvananthapuram<\/a> to a &#8216;<strong>Solar City<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>Under the 11th five year plan, the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had decided to make Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi &#8216;Solar Cities&#8217;. But this had just remained as a plan. Now, the council meeting has decided to formulate a Solar City Cell and a Stakeholder Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Ample support of the local self government is a must to get this project on road. Apart from planning, identifying the effectiveness of systems that can be operated to reduce electricity consumption is also a task for the local chapters of the government. It is an extensive project, with Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT) as the State nodal agency. The funding will be provided by the Union government.<\/p>\n<p>An amount of Rs 50 lakh will be provided for each town as per the Ministry guidelines. The Stakeholder Committee is set to include the Health officer and executive engineers of the Corporation , representatives of <a href=\"http:\/\/anert.gov.in\/\" target=\"_blank\">ANERT<\/a>, Pollution Control Board and Kerala State Electricity Board.<\/p>\n<p>The local civic bodies will also have to amend the building by-laws for making use of solar water heating systems mandatory in certain buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Work has begun on a two year old plan, whether the plan will\u00a0materialize\u00a0or will again attain dormancy is to be seen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The recent Corporation Council meeting has revived a Union government scheme which has been dormant for two years.
