In spite of a credible GDP and economic statistics, about 22.4 crore of Indians are lacking nutritious food. This shocking statistics is mentioned in the report prepared by the Global Food Security Index(GFSI). About 68.7% of the Indian population is below the global poverty line. This report was prepared after studying the conditions among 105 countries.<\/p>\n<p>In comparison with Pakistan, Bangladesh and SriLanka, food scarcity in India is a monstrous issue. The average calories necessary for a healthy adult is not available to about 19 % of the Indian citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The daily intake of calories required by an individual is 2,353kcal. But in India, only about 240kcal is available to 19% of the people. About 49.5% of the country&#8217;s domestic expense is spent to satisfy the food requirements. While this value is 52.3% in the South Asian countries, it is 20% for countries having high income.<\/p>\n<p>India ranks 66 in the list created by the Global Food Security Index. Food availability, cost, quality and security are the criteria upon which this list was drawn up. In terms of food distribution, India ranks 76th among the other countries.<\/p>\n<p>The GFSI was formed under the leadership of many popular economic scientists. The GFSI report also specifies that the food items of our country lack the minimum protein content required.
