The requirement is to ensure safety for the passengers and to prevent black-marketing of tickets and eliminate touts. Previously, ID proof was compulsory only to those passengers who are travelling in air-conditioned coaches.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/passengers-attention-please\/\" target=\"_blank\">Know the\u00a0real time running information of trains<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Union railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said, &#8220;Touts take ticket 4 months in advance and start black-marketing. It leads to problems for passengers. This practice needs to be stopped.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The new requirement will be applicable to anyone travelling in AC coaches, as well as in the reserved second class, sleeper class and economy class compartments. The railways will treat a passenger travelling without a valid proof of identity document as travelling without a ticket.<\/p>\n<p>The approved ID proofs include a voter&#8217;s ID, Driving license, Passport, PAN card, Passbook from a nationalised bank with a photograph, Ration card with photographs, Pension pay order, Senior citizen Card, ESI card, BPL card, CGHS card, Credit card with photograph, Aadhar card and identity cards issued by a school or college (for students).<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the hike in ticket price, minister said it is required if facilities are required<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will ensure proper facilities to the public,&#8221; said Union railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal<\/p>\n<p>He also added that railway is planning to cut costs on things like food items.&#8221;Many items provided in meal are not liked by people and these would be deducted, benefitting both the railway and public&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From December 1 onwards railway passengers of all classes and categories will have to carry an original proof of identity with them.
