According to Bit9, the security software firm that analyse the apps security permissions, out of 412,000 apps in the store, 25% pose security risk to mobile users. As per Bit9, employee-owned mobile devices enter the workplace through BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) phenomenon, the organisations have no idea what apps employees are intalling on their mobile devices. The Bit9 warns, the unmonitored access of these devices to the entire Google Play app inventory is a threat to the business. As BYOD becomes the norm, does it really mean &#8220;Bring Your Own Danger&#8221;?, asks Bit9.<\/p>\n<p>Analysis conducted by Bit9 among 400,000 apps within the <strong>Google Play marketplace<\/strong>, focuses on the permissions requested by these apps and the threat each vulnerability poses. The Bit9 also conducted a targeted sury of IT security decision makers responsible for the mobile policy of more than 400,000 employees.<\/p>\n<p>The report show that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>72 percent of all Android apps (more than 290,000) access at least one high-risk permission.<\/li>\n<li>71 percent of respondents say that their organization allows employee-owned devices to connect to their company&#8217;s network.<\/li>\n<li>84 percent of respondents feel iOS is significantly more secure than Android.<\/li>\n<li>96 percent of respondents that allow employee-owned device access, allow employees to access company email using their personal device.<\/li>\n<li>26 percent of apps access private information such as email and contacts, with only 2 percent of apps being from highly trusted publishers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new research says that more than 100,000 Android applications in Google play are &#8216;questionable&#8217;.
