Earlier, the Union Minister of Communications and IT, Kapil Sibal, had announced that a new version of the <em>Aakash tablet<\/em> would be launched this month. The low cost tablet was designed, developed and manufactured by DataWind Ltd and they will supply 100,000 units of the tablet to IIT Bombay in the first phase.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-4435\" title=\"aakash 2 tablet new student\" src=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/files\/2012\/11\/aakash-2-tablet-new-student.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"329\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cWe envision all 220 million students across India to be enabled by low cost Aakash devices in the coming years.\u201d said, N.K.Sinha- NME-ICT Director.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4439 alignleft\" title=\"Datawind CEO with the newly-launched Aakash 2 tablet\" src=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/files\/2012\/11\/Datawind-CEO-with-the-newly-launched-Aakash-2-tablet1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"319\" \/><strong>Aakash 2<\/strong> is loaded with out of the box Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and is powered by a 1GHz processor. The display also got an up-gradation with 7\u201d inch capacitive touch screen with superior resolution. However, the RAM hasn\u2019t changed from the 512MB and is still a bottleneck on Ice Cream Sandwich platform. Also it hasn\u2019t been confirmed whether&#8217; Google Play&#8217; is supported, so it\u2019s unclear whether students can download Apps and Games from the Google Store without restriction. Tablet will also feature an e-learning platform called &#8216;<strong>i-View<\/strong>&#8216; developed by Amrita University for virtual interactive learning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish to use technology to fight poverty with a passion.
