In addition to treating waste, these plants also help to generate electricity. In Sreekaryam, the plant powers 118 bulbs.<\/p>\n<p>Biogas plants are also set to come up in schools and health centres in the city. The plant can generate four kilowatt of energy.<\/p>\n<p>V S Padmakumar, the chairperson of the Corporation works Standing Committee has reportedly said that \u00a0work \u00a0for setting up <strong>waste-to-energy plants<\/strong> had begun at the Peroorkada and Kazhakuttam markets. The project has reached the half way mark at Kazhakuttam.<\/p>\n<p>With the amount of waste at Chala and Palayam markets being significantly large, plants of larger capacity are set for these markets.<\/p>\n<p>The plant was set to come up at Palayam earlier itself . But Infrastructure Kerala Limited was to be involved in the development of the market and all other constructions were kept on halt.
