General Motors plan to achieve the goal by using variety of technologies that include\u00a0 pure electrics, plug-in electrics and hybrids that uses GM&#8217;s &#8216;<strong>eAssist<\/strong>&#8216; Technology said Mary Barra, Senior vice president of GM&#8217;s global product development. She made the remarks at GM&#8217;s Electrification Experience press event in Sausalito, California via satellite feed from Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGM is working on the next-generation propulsion technology that powers the Volt and will power the Cadillac ELR to improve the system&#8217;s value and efficiency in the not too distant future. In fact, we&#8217;re looking at new ways we can use EREV (extended-range electric vehicle) technologies to provide more innovative options to our customers,&#8221; Detroit News quoted Marry Barra<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, General Motors launched a plug-in <strong>Chevrolet Volt<\/strong>. Though sales started off at a slow rate, it has been gaining this year. In October 2012, the Volt set a record by selling 3000 units. Last year through October, General Motors has sold more than 19,000 Volts.<\/p>\n<p>The company also has plans to roll out a new Chevy Spark Battery Electric Vehicle by 2013 and also announced a new plug-in Cadillac ELR coupe that uses the same technology that powers the Volt. The company also claimed that, it has sold more than 26,000 vehicles equipped with &#8216;<strong>eAssist<\/strong>&#8216; technology through October and has plans to put eAssist technology in &#8220;hundreds of thousands&#8221; of vehicles annually by the year 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General Motors Co is planning to make 500,000 electric cars a year by 2017.
