The Shivsena supremo Bal Thackary passed away today at 3:30Pm in Mumbai. The 86- year old Bal Thackary was critically ill for the past few days due to pancreatic and lung ailments. The body will be kept in state for \u2018darshan \u2018at Shivaji Park, Mumbai at 7 AM to allow his supports to pay last respect.<\/p>\n
As far as Maharashtra is concerned it is indeed an end of an era. All over Mumbai, the bereaved Shiv Sainiks are making their way towards \u2018MatoShree\u2019 the residence of Thackary.Homages are pouring from various quarters. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, BJP leader Sushama Swaraj, Narendra Modi , Prakash Javadekar have expressed their grief over the demise of the sena leader. Bollywood celebrities are also paying their respects through twitter.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister issued a statement saying, “For him the interests of Maharashtra were particularly important and he always strived to inculcate a sense of pride in its people. He founded the Shiv Sena and built the party into a formidable force in the State politics with his strong leadership.”<\/p>\n
Fearing untoward incidents, Mumbai has been put on high alert for the next 24hours. Around 20,000 police men have been deployed across the city. Bal Thackary started his life as a political cartoonist and turned to politics when he strived to inculcate pride of the Marathas in his people. The mouth piece of Shiv Sena \u2018Saamna\u2019 was launched by him in 1989.His party joined hands with BJP and won Maharashtra state assembly election and came to power.
