An interval of more than 10 years has been the time <a title=\"Vespa\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vespa\" target=\"_blank\">Vespa<\/a> was never seen in the Indian markets. Vespa declined in its sales slowly by the end of 1997 and the decline in sales continued till 2000 when the Piaggio, the parent company of the Italian scooters decided to pull the plug to stop production of Vespa scooters in India. The main reason was that Indian customers actually began to get rid of geared scooters as automatic scooters like the Kinetic were doing much better sales and had economy as same as the geared scooters. The same happened for Bajaj Chetak too, a similar geared scooter to the Vespa.<\/p>\n<p>Now the time has come for the Piaggio company to think about a return to the scooter market, considering the fact that Piaggio is now only selling light commercial vehicles. The company hopes to return to the mass volumes of sales it did with the Vespa like the olden times through the new <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Italian Vespa LX 125<\/strong><\/span>. The company has decided to launch automatics now as geared scooters have become outdated.<\/p>\n<h3>Looks:<\/h3>\n<p>The previous generation Vespa scooters had a rounded body starting from the headlight to the engine hood beneath the seat; totally a curved shell with curved engine covers. The LX 125 is quite different from the old models. The curves have been proportioned all around giving a modern generation retro punk look. Yes, its very eye catching when compared to its rival models like the Honda Activa, Honda Aviator, Kinetic Blaze and Suzuki Access 125. The looks from the front are quite different to the old Vespa, yet the round headlights and the slight incline on the front body below the handle with the indicators will make us understand that it\u2019s a Vespa. The back side view is also quite exciting as the front with all the indicators being LED. From the sides, the same old Vespa tradition with the newly designed curves seems to go along with the rest of the scooter. Overall, I would give 9 out of 10 for the smashing Retro looks that will go in favour of youngsters.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<style type=\"text\/css\">\n\t\t\t#gallery-1 {\n\t\t\t\tmargin: \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<h3>Features:<\/h3>\n<p>The LX 125 stands quite better than the other scooters in terms of the features it comes with. To start of, both the levers are silver alloys and not painted black metal levers you would normally see in most of the 2 wheelers. The alloy levers make up the looks even better along with those Italian alloy wheels. The <em>LX 125<\/em> comes with alloys both front and back. The only scooter with alloys other than the Vespa is the Aviator. But, sadly the Vespa does not come with Disc brakes as we see in the Aviator.<br \/>\nVespa should have included it too for the price we are paying for the LX 125. The instrument case has a small clock also and the ignition lights, the speedometer, fuel gauges markings are well placed and are easy to read even at night with proper back lighting. Finally, the Vespa has got some common features even though they are better in the LX than the other rival scooters.<\/p>\n<h3>Space :<\/h3>\n<p>The old Vespa scooters were quite wide at the platform where the back brake pedal was located. Now all these levers are on the handle itself due to automatic transmission. But the space in the glove box beneath the handle is a let down. Its just too small to take even a rain coat. The space was compromised due the handle bar movement pipe which obstructs the space. The glove box is now factory fitted unlike the extra box added. It is also colored similar to the body color. The space underneath the seat is quite large, better than the Access but still not as large as the Aviator nor the Activa. The seat is quite wide and the height is quite good, but the cushioning is not so good as the seats used nowadays in most 2 wheelers are low profile. Hence you may miss that that extra comfort when you compare it with the old 2 wheelers. The leg space is quite adjusted but still space is plenty. Two people can sit comfortably for a long ride without much discomfort, a good plus point in the LX when compared to the other scooters.<\/p>\n<h3>Ride and Comfort:<\/h3>\n<p>When it comes to the ride, Vespa amazes us with its close to perfect handling in straight roads and curves without any discomfort for the rider. The tubeless alloy wheels and tyres provide good grip and inspires better stability on curves at comparatively higher speeds than the rivals. The suspension setup is not too harsh nor too soft. It has the perfect balance of both and blends well with the Indian terrain roads which are always filled with huge poth holes. The Vespa handles all these holes without any discomfort in its suspension setup and goes well with any terrain it goes on. Overall, the Vespa has better road manners than all the other scooters as it can shame them due to its riding comfort.<\/p>\n<h3>Engine and Power:<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/files\/2012\/08\/Vespa-LX-125-review.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-489 alignleft\" title=\"Vespa LX 125 review (Image Credits: tech2auto.com)\" src=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/files\/2012\/08\/Vespa-LX-125-review.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>The <em>Vespa LX 125<\/em> is powered by a 125 cc, 4 stroke single cylinder engine which is air cooled. Like I said earlier, its automatic and hence nobody has to move their hands for changing the gears. The initial power delivery is very good as it hits 0-60 from stand still in less than seconds. The maximum power delivery is 10 BHP at an engine speed of 7500 rpm. The torque is also quite high: 10.6 Nm at 6000rpm. These figures indicate that the Vespa is most powerful of all the other scooters. The Vespa has an impressive initial and mid range speeds making it quite a fun to drive around in the city through the traffic. Its also quite nimble in handling and hence its quite a breeze to cruise in the city and the highway. However, things begin to slow down once it goes after 80. But a normal Vespa would never hit that speed. Overall the Vespa performs better than all the other scooters in terms of power and ride.<\/p>\n<p>However, the <strong>Vespa LX 125<\/strong>\u00a0is not going to be everyone\u2019s choice due to its high end pricing. The Ex: showroom price is 66,000 and the on road price becomes 73,000 making it the most costliest scooters. While there is huge price difference with Vespa and the others, the Vespa has got more power than its rivals, better looks, better finish and better equipment.\u00a0The Vespa can attract the youngsters who prefer scooters than bikes due to its retro looks, but definitely, a scooter at this price is never going to impress the common commutators.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a long time since any of us have seen a Vespa scooter on road.
