The Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission(JNNURM) low floor buses will begin operation from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam and from Ernakulam to Kozhikode, Nilambur, Pala, Kottayam and Thodupuzha from today onwards. Eight new JNNURM buses joined the fleet .<\/p>\n<p>It is for the first time that low floor buses have been allotted for intercity services in Kerala. KSRTC officials is hoping that the response will be good.<\/p>\n<p>With the new additions, the number of low floor buses have now become 74. Almost 48 of these will operate from Ernakulam. The AC low floor buses currently running in Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram is a hit among the people. The service is appreciated by many and this new service will most probably get a warm welcome if the timings are allotted wisely by the authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The to and fro journey timings of the Thiruvananthapuram- Ernakulam route via Kollam and Alappuzha is now 5:30 am, 11:30 am and 5:30 pm. Two of the new buses is set to operate in this route.<\/p>\n<p>The bus will run from Ernakulam to Kozhikode and back via Thrissur at 5:30 am, 11:30 am and 5:15 pm while the Ernakulam to Nilambur journey via Thrissur, Shornur and Perinthalmanna is charted for 6 am, 11:30 am and 5:30 pm.<\/p>\n<p>The Ernakulam to Kottayam service via Vaikom will be at 6:30 am, 10:40 am and 3:20 pm. The bus service from Kottayam will run at 8:30 am, 1:20 pm and 5:20 pm.<\/p>\n<p>From Ernakulam to Pala via Piravom and Koothattukulam buses will operate at 6:15 am, 10:30 am and 5:10 pm. While the return service from Pala to Ernakulam will be at 8:10 am, 1:20 pm and 7:10 pm.<\/p>\n<p>The service from Ernakulam to Thodupuzha via Muvattupuzha will be at 7:25 am and 5:25 pm. The return to Thodupuzha is set for 10:15 am and 8 pm<\/p>\n<h3>Update: 19\/11\/2012<\/h3>\n<p>Close on the heels to the above decision, the Mayors and councillors of Cochin and Trivandrum Corporations have voiced their protests and have taken out demonstrations against the move.<\/p>\n<p>The Mayor of Cochin Corporation, Tony Chammini has stated that the KSRTC has made the decision without obtaining permission from the Cochin Corporation Council. He also said that he will approach the Central Urban Development Ministry and file a complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The low floor Volvo buses have been introduced under the JNnrum scheme to facilitate better public transit system in the cities.
