The Spanish football giants secured a highest position in La Liga &#8211; the top professional association football division of the Spanish football league system. Lionel Messi&#8217;s brace means he has now 82 goals in 2012 and is only 4 goals away from breaking Gerd Mueller\u2019s record of 85 goals set in 1972.Messi also tops the <strong>La Liga charts<\/strong> for the season with 19 goals.<br \/>\nBarcelona&#8217;s win has increased the gap between Real Madrid by 11 points. They also broke Real Madrid&#8217;s record for the best start at the La Liga season in 1991-1992.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova<\/strong> does not see the league as being won so early in the season. \u201cThe league is not over, we\u2019re only a third through and Atletico are three points behind us. There is a lot to play for. We have been 11 point ahead of Madrid before and we suffered a lot in the end,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Barcelona have six more games left in 2012 for Messi to score the 4 goals to overcome Gerd Mueller&#8217;s record and to add another record to his ever increasing list of achievements.
