Environment friendly handicrafts fest is in the city, with a curious name ‘Chandhakkari<\/strong>‘ (market lady). The festival will be at the YMCA hall in Thiruvananthapuram<\/a> from 12 December to 14.<\/p>\n

The major attraction of the exhibition is the bags made of waste clothes from tailoring shops and ornaments made from original clay. Beautiful bags are made from cut clothes gathered from shops. Radha Gomathi, who is also an artist is behind this. A good painter, she make sketches and make bags according to the sketches. There are around five women working for her and the brand name for bags is ‘Sangamitra’ which range from Rs. 50 to 400.<\/p>\n

Usually clay ornaments are made from polymer clay but here these are made of original clay and the woman behind this is Manjusha Sathish from Palakkad. The ornaments will range from Rs. 30 to 1200. Aparna Vinodini from Kozhikkode is responsible for the saris and handicraft products in the exhibition. The hand woven products and saris are from Madhya Pradesh and silk saris and printed clothes are also exhibited in the show.<\/p>\n

Natural colours are used in most of the products. They exhibit the products only after confirming all are environmental friendly. The ‘Chandhakkari’ exhibition<\/strong> was earlier conducted in Kochi, Kozhikkode and Wayanad and this is for the first time they are coming to the capital city.<\/p>\n
