Described in one line, the story of Ranjith’s new ‘Bavuttiyude Namathil<\/strong>‘ is simply that of a talented writer fighting writer’s block.Director G.S.Vijayan’s ‘Bavuttiyude Namathil’ is one of those touching movies to have come out in Malayalam in the recent times. It cannot be hailed as a classic by any means. But quite a few touching moments make this movie a must-watch for any drama movie buff.<\/p>\n

Right away you are drawn into the life of Bavutty. He believes in universal love cutting across religion, caste and social status. The man believes in goodness of a person and tries to make the world a better place for others.Mammootty plays Bavutty, a chauffeur in a wealthy household. He is in fact much more than a driver. He is very much part of the family. For Sethu (played by Shankar Ramakrishnan), his employer, life is all about making money, but Bavutty is a simple man with no dreams.\u00a0Kavya Madhavan plays Vanaja, Sethu’s wife while Kaniha appears as Mariam, a house-maid. Rima Kallingal plays the role of Noorjahan, a tuition teacher.<\/p>\n

The biggest asset of ‘Bavuttiyude Namathil’ is the story and screenplay by Ranjith, which is perfect. Another plus point of the film is the racy way in which G.S.Vijayan has been able to tell the story with right mix of comedy and sentiments woven into the plot.It is also to Ranjith’s credit that he makes a film which looks intensely personal in the first half relatively universal as it goes on. The pacing of the second half is slow and might be criticised for appearing pretentious, but the peppy dialogues keep the momentum going. The seemingly simple narrative is peppered with events and incidents that make the story wholesome. The peripheral characters take centrestage in unexpected ways. The way the characters are built makes it worthwhile. For example,Vineeth,Harsree Ashokan and Lena.<\/p>\n

But he could have trimmed it a bit as the film lags especially in the second half. The director has resorted to too many sentiments to woo the lady audiences. Finally the film belongs to Mammootty. Mammooty is the heart and soul of the film and he has proved once again that no actor can match up to him in such roles. His comedy timing is also perfect and not once does he step out of line to be the star that he is. And the way his character speaks in Malappuram Malayalam is a lesson in diction& dialogue delivery for students of cinema. Kaniha in a strong performance oriented role makes you laugh with her antics.Kavya Madhavan adds depth to melodrama. Harisree Ashokan in a trusted Alavi is simply outstanding. Reema Kallingal just provides some lighter moments to the proceedings.Vineeth did a amazing job. The rest of the cast like Shankar Ramakrishnan,Sudheesh,Augustine and Kottayam Naseer have all given their best.<\/p>\n

G.S.Vijayan should definitely be credited for bringing Mammootty into full form. The camera has etched the beauty of Neeleswaram locales well and the songs including a Hindi one tuned by Shahbaz Aman are also good,BG too good.<\/p>\n

I’m going with\u00a03.5\/5<\/strong>\u00a0for this heart touching ‘Bavutty’. Nothing great about this movie but surely worth seeing and you will not be disappointed.<\/p>\n
