The functioning of Government Offices in the city come to a standstill as a section of employees began an indefinite strike against the Government\u2019s decision to introduce contributory pension scheme from this April. The second day of the strike by pro-Left government employees witnessed violent incidents. Five persons were injured, several persons were manhandled, and over 20 KSRTC buses damaged and even a school headmaster was doused with used engine oil.<\/p>\n
The Secretariat, the hub of State administration, became a war zone when striking employees and their pro-government colleagues threw stones and sticks at each other. The police had to fire tear gas to disperse violent crowd.<\/p>\n
The city police have registered 13 cases, and 2 persons had been arrested. Two separate cases have been registered by the Peroorkada police in connection with the manhandling of two persons who tried to appear for work at the Kudappanakkunnu Civil Station. Museum police also registered two cases against protesters for thrashing of a KSRTC<\/a> employee and for obstructing an employee from appearing for duty.<\/p>\n Similar events were reported from the city suburbs too.
