The Central Bus Terminal at Thampanoor<\/strong> will be operational by April<\/strong>. The authorities in charge of Thampanoor bus stand-cum-shopping complex are striving to get it operational as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

The bus terminus is a joint venture of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation<\/a> and Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation Limited, the project is planned on BOT basis.<\/p>\n

The project was started in March 2010 with a budget of Rs 55.96 crore. However, the works has been stalled due to many reasons which include the accident that resulted in the death of a labourer, scarcity river sand, cement and other raw materials.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that the terminal will be functional within a couple of months. Construction of the administrative block has been completed. Works on the last floor and interiors are progressing,\u201d<\/em> – said Sasikumar, Chief planner of Kumar Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

S R Navakumar, chief engineer of KSFDC,<\/a> said that about 75 percent of works were over. The work consists of construction of the main block and the administrative block. The main block consists of 10 floors with a multi-level parking area that can accommodate 330 cars and 500 two-wheelers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bus terminal has a total area of 33,200-square and will have 4 zones- An arrival bus bay zone, a departure bus bay zone with passenger facilities, a bus terminal supporting facility zone for idle bus parking, repair garage, fuel-filling facility etc and a commercial zone with a shopping complex, food court and convention centre.<\/p>\n

29 buses can arrive and depart at the same time. The terminus will also have electronic display boards.<\/p>\n

Once the bus terminus is operational, it will become a landmark in the city. With the majestic Trivandrum central railway station<\/a> at one side and the new bus terminal on the opposite side, it will definitely change the face of Trivandrum.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
