The week-long Nishagandhi Festival organised by <a title=\"\u2018The Guardian\u2019 calls Varkala as the new Goa\" href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/the-guardian-calls-varkala-as-the-new-goa\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kerala Tourism<\/a> was inaugurated Tourism Minister A P Anilkumar. Mahinsha<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The opening dance called \u2018<strong>Naman<\/strong>\u2019 lasted for 30 minutes and blended five classical dance forms, each led by a renowned artiste \u2014 Jayaprabha Menon (Mohiniyattom), Malti Shyam (Kathak), Kavita Dwibedi (Odissi), Priya Venkataraman (Bharatanatyam) and Bimbavati Devi (Manipuri) , followed by Mohiniyattam, performed by actress Parvathy Jayaram. The evening ended with a Kathak routine led by Vikram Iyengar.<\/p>\n<p>Artist and dance performers from all over India come to enjoy and participate in this cultural fest. Renowned artists will perform Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Odissi, modern ballet, Classical Music and other folk forms during the festival.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Nishagandhi Festival<\/strong> also showcases the traditional handicrafts of Kerala and the cuisines of India in the Sooryakanthi Fair Ground within the Kanakakunnu palace compound. Entry is free for all.
