With this, <strong>Trivandrum will be one of the 3 cities in the country<\/strong> where \u2018C\u2019 checks can be performed.<\/p>\n<p>The low cost carrier of the Air India -Air India Express can conduct \u2018C\u2019 checks of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft at the MRO in Trivandrum instead of in Mumbai. This way, Air India can save Rs.2.5 lakh an hour.<\/p>\n<p>The approval of the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will be handed over to Air India authorities by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation K.C. Venugopal on the MRO premises on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u2018C\u2019 checks<\/span> for a plane is carried out every 3,000 flights or in 15months and engineers will calibrate flight control, repair components and test major internal systems. They will also conduct minor structural inspections, rigging tests and post-check flights. Earlier the MRO facility in Trivandrum was handling 2 aircraft at a time and phase-checks of 3 aircraft a week.<\/p>\n<p>The Rs.110-crore MRO facility spread across 6.07 hectares was commissioned on December 16, 2011. The facility is state-of-the-art with 5,000SF of workshop, 10,000SF apron, electrically operated and vertically moving hangar door system, warehouse and office space. Initially, the MRO will handle engineering requirements of the aircraft in the fleet of Air India Express and later Airbus A-320.<\/p>\n<p>Since it has got permission for \u2018C\u2019 checks, the MRO will now apply for the European Aviation Safety Agency\u2019s approval.
