It is February 20th- a date that is etched in the minds of thousands of candidates who is fighting against the University Grants Commission. The division bench of the Kerala High Court hears the case today after it has been postponed twice.<\/p>\n

It all happened when UGC declared the results of the National Eligibility Test (NET)<\/a> of June 2012. All those who were sure of success were shell shocked when they could not find their numbers in the list. Then it came into light that UGC has raised the minimum criteria. Can the rules of a game be changed after it is played? Candidates from Kerala were the first to wake up to this; they staged protests, sent RTI petitions and filed complaints. It did not end there. The days that followed witnessed the coming together of candidates from all over the nation under the umbrella of a common demand for justice. Social media witnessed the power of unity among the nation\u2019s youth.<\/p>\n

A supplementary list was published by UGC in November and it added fuel to the fire.<\/p>\n

The Kerala High Court was with the petitioners. It ordered the UGC to uphold the original criteria. UGC had gone for an appeal in the division bench and the case had been postponed since January. According to UGC, their measure was to increase the \u2018quality of education\u2019<\/strong> in the country.<\/p>\n

Cases have been filed in high courts all over the country. Candidates hope to get justice as early as possible as even a minute\u2019s loss is risky in the highly competitive scenario of our nation.<\/p>\n
