The selection criteria was based on various parameters such as Quality of public transport and percentage of slum population.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report &#8220;2% of Trivandrum\u2019s total population lives in slums, the lowest among the 50 cities in India; 44% of the city\u2019s residents use public transport and 49% residents take less than five minutes to cover 5km in their neighborhood, only 13% can do the same in Mumbai.\u201c Rajkot was selected as the &#8216;Emerging City&#8217; in the same category.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/entecity.com\" target=\"_blank\">Trivandrum<\/a> also got the <strong>15th position in the &#8216;overall category<\/strong>&#8216;. Chennai bagged the first position, followed by Chandigarh, Mumbai and Hyderabad.<\/p>\n<p>India Today chose 50 cities in the survey and assessed each under nine categories -Housing and transport, Education, Crime and Safety, Public Services, Healthcare, Investment, Economy, Environment and Entertainment.
