On the eve of Attukal Pongala<\/a>, where lakhs of people congregate, the city faced a major crisis in the form of pipe burst. Residents of our city are accustomed to frequent pipe burst , but this time the situation was unusual in that, there were four pipe bursts.<\/p>\n

Water supply to places like Vellayambalam, Statue, and Medical College were affected. Water authority has swung into action and repair works are underway on a war footing and it\u2019s hoped that, water supply will be restored as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the crisis did not affect Attukal Pongala in anyway. Alternate measures like supplying water in tanker lorries have already been undertaken. 50 tanker lorries have been deployed for this purpose.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2019A control room has been set up at Vellayambalam (at the KWA HQ) which the public can contact on the helpline numbers in emergencies. Water will be supplied in tanker lorries immediately once the control room is alerted. At the Medical College, water tankers will be available at all times\u201d said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy<\/p>\n

Since the pipe burst occurred on the eve of Attukal Pongala, there are many who speculate that this might be a sabotage attempted by some miscreants. Kerala Water Authority<\/a> expects to restore water supply fully by tomorrow.<\/p>\n
