KSSTM officials are trying to rope in German company Carl Zeiss for giving the planetarium a makeover. The planetarium will get a new dome and state of the art projectors for providing more realistic feel of the universe to the visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The diameter of the dome will be increased from the present 15 meters to 17 meters. It will have a <strong>screen quality equivalent to IMAX<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Carl Zeiss auto mechanical projectors will be installed in the planetarium. The current starship projector and the dome were installed in 1987. This is a technology that\u2019s over 25 years old and the Japan based GOTO Company, manufacturer of the current projector had ceased producing spare parts for it a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The total project costs Rs 9.74 crore and in Phase I, Rs 7 crore will be undertaken.<\/p>\n<p>The Zeiss Company was selected by a committee headed by the Director General of Science Museums. Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb approved the selection. Other bidders included Skyscan, US, Global Immersion, UK and Goto Optical, Japan.<\/p>\n<p>If the project goes as planned, the planetarium will get a complete makeover by January 2014. The <strong>renovated Priyadarshini Planetarium will become the best planetarium in India<\/strong>.
