Not many of us are familiar with the word Calligraphy<\/a>. The word literally means beautiful writing. It can also be defined as a Visual art related to writing. Now two designers Orion Champadiyil<\/strong> and Hiran Venugopalan<\/strong> have explored the possibility of blending calligraphy and Malayalam script.<\/p>\n

What led to MaGra?<\/h3>\n

Recently well known artist Bhattathiri had hosted an exhibition of Malayalam Calligraphy titled ‘Ka Cha Ta Tha Pa’<\/a> at Trivandrum. This inspired designer Orion Chamapdayil<\/a> to think along the lines of creating Malayalam calligraphy posters. Thus his first work titled ‘Mazha’ was born. Orion says that he was encouraged by Hiran Venugopalan<\/a> founder of ‘Salt Mango Tree’ to go further down this road.<\/p>\n

Hiran and Orion jointly created a Facebook page ‘Malayaleegraphy<\/a> ‘ derived from Malayalee+Graphics+ Calligraphy which translates to MaGra. The page which was launched a few days back is an instant hit among netizens.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

These posters which employed Inkscape\/Adobe illustrator marked the entry of Malayalam script into the design space. Earlier Hiran have done ‘Type Face designing’ in Malayalam. He is also one of the designers of the ornamental font called ‘Dyuthi<\/strong>‘.<\/p>\n

Orion’s body of work includes posters based on poem written by Tony Jose K, followed by Padmarajan’s ‘Lola<\/strong>‘ and also the much popular dialogues from Malayalam movies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These two wish more people to do same experiment.\u00a0They will feature the best MaGras on their Page as well. They have even offered freedom to use their works on your profiles and expect that a credit line is added in their name.<\/p>\n
