Dubbed garbhasriman , he was the lucky baby for whom the lullaby \u2018<strong> Omana thinkal kidavo<\/strong>\u2019 was penned.<\/p>\n<p>Thiruvananthapuram cannot forget the developments brought in by the king, most of which are still an integral part and pride of the city.<\/p>\n<p>He shifted the government secretariat from Kollam (to Thiruvananthapuram. He started many English schools in Thiruvananthapuram out of which the first in 1834, which came to be called the Raja&#8217;s Government Free School, later Maharaja&#8217;s High School and then Maharaja&#8217;s College, is now the University College.<\/p>\n<p>He introduced many reforms in the legal sectorand is also credited with conducting the first census of the state in 1836. Many hospitals were started, and he put an end to the barbaric punishment called the &#8216;Suchindram Kaimukku&#8217;. He started the first government press and also the observatory, museum and zoo.<\/p>\n<p>As a musician, his contributions are still a matter of pride.
