After the recent hike in ticket prices by the government owned theatres, private theatres in the city too have decided to increase the prices of cinema tickets. This is the second hike in ticket price within the last six months.<\/p>\n
Theater owners have asked the City Corporation to grant permission for the hike stating that, they are forced to increase the price as film\u00a0distributors\u00a0have increased their share. Currently, private theatres in the city charge Rs60 for Balcony Tickets and Rs50 for First class tickets. Theater\u00a0owners demanded an increase of Rs10 to Rs30.<\/p>\n
Except Sree Padmanabha<\/a> all other theatres in city have submitted the request to hike ticket rates. The officials said that hike will be approved only after considering the facilities in the city\u00a0theaters\u00a0 The Corporation\u2019s financial standing committee may approve the hike in May 5th.<\/p>\n Government operated\u00a0theaters\u00a0like Kalabhavan<\/a> charge Rs100 for Balcony Tickets<\/strong> and Rs80 for First class tickets<\/strong>, while Kairali<\/a>–Sree<\/a>–Nila<\/a> charge Rs80 per ticket. These theatres have undergone a major renovation and hence the price hike. Sree Padmanabha Theatre was the first\u00a0theater\u00a0in the city that set a whole new standard for film viewing. A few private theatres also followed the same line.<\/p>\n However, majority of the theatres in the city are pathetic and needs to be upgraded. Many people are of the opinion that current rates in these theatres are very high compared to the facilities they offer.
