Ban on Plastic bags from today onwards! ‘Say no to plastic bags’

There is a complete ban on usage of plastic bags of thickness 50 microns and below.

The restrictions on plastic bags will be implemented from today (July 1) onwards. There is a complete ban on usage of plastic bags of thickness 50 microns and below.

The all-party-meeting convened by the city corporation has decided to conduct an awareness drive from July 1 to 15.  The seizure of banned plastic and imposition of penalties will begin only after July 15. Corporation will also seek assistance from the city police to effectively curb the usage of plastic.

All flex boards placed between Kowdiar and Eastfort will also be removed before July 15. Earlier, civic body has given an ultimatum to political parties, associations and firms to remove flex-boards in public places before June 20. Flex boards are causing inconvenience to pedestrians and the plastic material are difficult to decompose causing an environmental concern.  The abandoned flex-boards often got absorbed in the earth causing environmental damage.

All flex boards placed between Kowdiar and Eastfort will also be removed before July 15.

Civic body will also launch green certification campaign in city schools. As part of green certification, corporation health wing will assess and certify campuses of educational institutions which have introduced green protocol by abandoning use of plastic and disposables.
