National Games Update: Modern Media Centre coming up in Trivandrum

The total expenditure of the National Games is pegged at Rs 611 crore, of which Rs 450 crore is used for infrastructure development and Rs 161 crore for its conduct.

State Media Centre exclusively for the upcoming 35th National Games will come up in Trivandrum. The decision was taken by in an executive committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.

National Games Media Centre will have all the latest facilities to address all the reporting requirements of over 100 print media reporters and around 40 representatives from the electronic media at a time. The centre will also have internet connectivity and feeder lines which will carry all Games-related news from all venues spread across the state. Apart from this, there will also be an ‘Integrated Games Media Information Service Centre’ or IGMFSC which will function on the media centre during the 15-day games.

The centre has been already approved by the Media Committee and the Core Group Committee. Media accreditation for journalists will be accelerated and its procedure and formalities will be made available in the official website www.kerala2015.com by October.

A first meeting of the Games Relations Committee was held under the chairmanship of Shashi Tharoor MP on Monday. The committee decided to come up with a viable option to identify and assess post-Games inventory and maintain them. Redeployment plans for movable assets worth Rs 100 crore, including electronic equipment worth Rs 10 crore, also will be identified.
