Games Village which spread over 28 acres has 365 pre-fab houses which can house 5000 sports-persons.
With less than 2 days to go for the 35th National games Kerala, the state-of-the-art pre-fabricated Games Village at Menamkulam has been handed over to the National Games Secretariat.
The village which is spread over 28 acres of land which belongs to Kerala SIDCO will house more than 5000 sportspersons and officials who would take part in the Games. The Games Village is developed using the first-ever technologically-advanced means of construction called ‘Prefabricated housing technology’. It allowed the developers to complete the whole village in record time of ten months.
The advantage of having a prefabricated village would also ensure minimum operation costs and it can also be relocated to any other site. Same technology was used in 2012 London Olympics Games Village.
There are 365 pre-fab houses in the Games Village. Five athletes will be accommodated in one room, while coaches and team officials get single rooms. The Games Village will also have social infrastructures such as kitchen, food courts, reception desks, medical centre, recreational zone, health club, open air theatre, conference halls etc.
Games Village will have all the basic facilities like internal road network, street lighting, parking bays, sewage treatment plant, water treatment plant, electrical sub-station and even landscaping. The village has also been landscaped at a cost of Rs 50lakh. Landscaping work includes 9 parks with each having a unique theme.
