Japanese auto major Nissan announced the global re-launch of its Datsun brand with the unveiling of hatchback ‘Datsun Go’, which will be priced less than Rs 4 lakh. Datsun the brand that helped win Western acceptance of Japanese autos was shelved for three decades. According to the company, ‘Datsun Go’ will be available in the Indian market from early next year.
“Today we begin new chapter in the history of Nissan. Datsun is back. The car will go on sales early next year in India, followed by Indonesia, Russia and South Africa,” Nissan Motor Co President and CEO Carlos Ghosn said here.
The re-imagined five-seat hatchback is designed to appeal to middle-class strivers. The car spans 3.78 meter and boast of excellent legroom with longer wheelbase at 2450 mm. Width is 1635 mm with good shoulder room. The dashboard does take a few parts from the Micra and there are plenty of storage spaces. The dashboard mounted gear lever gives space for keeping stuff on the bench type front seat. Features will be limited and there will be no rear power window or tachometer.
The car is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine which has been “fully engineered in India” can produce 68 PS and 104 Nm. Datsun Go will also contains connectivity features with Smart Phones.
Datsun Go will take on hatchbacks such as Hyundai I10, Maruti A Star, Honda Brio, Chevrolet Beat and Ford Figo. Nissan Datsun Go Price in India is less than Rs 4 lakh.
