Thiruvananthapuram all set for its first International stadium

With a seating capacity of 50,000, this state of the art stadium conforms to the standards of both International Cricket Council (ICC) and International Federation of Association Football(FIFA).

The first world class multi purpose stadium of Kerala is all set to come up at the Karyavattom Kerala University campus. This stadium will play host to the 35th edition of the national games slated to be conducted in December 2013.

The funding of the stadium is by Public Private Partnership. The issues relating to budgeting and funds are handled by the private partner. This will reduce the delays involved with infrastructure projects in the country. It is a model that is worth imitating. This model is also called DBOT (Design, Build, Own and Transfer). This will be the first sports facility in India to follow the DBOT principle.

This project spans over a total area of 37 acres with the stadium to occupy 30.5 acres and an auxillary parking lot in about 6.5 acres. Also the roads approaching the sports facility will have a width of 24 metres and an area of 2.0 acres.

With a seating capacity of 50,000, this state of the art stadium conforms to the standards of both International Cricket Council (ICC) and International Federation of Association Football(FIFA). The greenfield stadium will also sport a convention centre, exhibition hall, restaurant, club house, swimming pools, indoor games facilities, retail space etc. A High Mass Sports lighting also expected to be installed for television coverage.

Beyond football and cricket, concerts, conventions, exhibitions, trade shows and numerous other sporting events can be hosted in this world class facility.

Complete handicap accessibility will be available in this stadium, unlike some other stadiums in the country.

With the entry of such world class sporting facilities, lets just hope that the State of P T Usha and Preeja Sreedharan would soon develop into the sports hub of the nation.
