Trivandrum and Kozhikode Light Metro gets green signal!

Despite the 'light metro' tag, the proposed projects in Trivandrum and Kozhikode will more or less match the amenities and conveniences of the Kochi metro.

Finally after years of uncertainty, Trivandrum and Kozhikode will get Light Metro.

DMRC has signed an interim consultancy agreement with Kerala Rapid Transit Ltd (KRTL) for the Rs. 6,728-crore ‘light metro’ in Trivandrum and Kozhikode.  Chief Minister said that government will speed up steps for completing tasks. He said he was hopeful that DMRC would complete the Light Metro project in a time-bound manner as it was the case with Kochi Metro.

DMRC would complete the work in Trivandrum in five years and that in Kozhikode in four years once the government readied the basic infrastructure. In the coming days, DMRC will prepare the tender documents for procurement of rolling stock, land acquisition survey, estimates for the flyovers, identification of major utilities and utility shifting plans.

The 21.82-km light metro in Trivandrum will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs. 4,219 crore.
