More than 200 students from various schools in the city signed the anti- drugs pledge which was handed over the RJ Firoz.
92.7 Big FM‘s anti-drug campaign Vande Keralam has officially kicked off at Martyrs’ Column in Palayam. Excise Commissioner Rishiraj Singh inaugurated the campaign by putting RJ Firoz in a symbolic jail from where he will continue his fight against drugs.
RJ Firoz will remain in jail until at least 927 people take an oath to renounce drugs. Firoz will also conduct a non-stop RJ Marathon by going on-air continuously for five days.
The response from the public to Vande Keralam campaign say the least was overwhelmingly positive.
On the first day itself, over 50 students from Travancore National School, Trivandrum came forward to pledge support for his campaign. Travancore National School is the first school in the city for children with learning disabilities.
Sandhya Prajin Director of the Travancore National School said that parents’ addiction is found to be one of the reasons that cause neurological disorders in children. This is the reason why Sandhya and her school support this novel initiative.
Travancore National School is not alone in this cause. More than 200 students from various schools in the city signed the anti- drugs pledge which was handed over the RJ Firoz.
Meanwhile, more than 75 students of Karthika Thirunal Government Vocational Higher Secondary School For Girls, Manacaud came forward to pledge their support by conducting a rally. The school is celebrating its 75th year anniversary this year and they have decided to use ‘Anti-drug’ as this year’s anniversary theme. The school strongly believes that if women are empowered to fight against drug and alcohol abuses, they can reduce the addiction in the society.
Representatives of various schools, colleges, business institutions and non-profit organizations came forward and offered their support. A lot of independent anti-drug campaign and activities are planned throughout the week.

Vande Keralam campaign by Big FM was launched in 2008 and the fourth season of the campaign had helped 1,122 people give up the habit of drug and alcohol use.
