#EnteThiruvananthapuram: Trivandrum has been ranked among the least expensive cities in the world by the Numbeo, an online database of user-contributed information about the cost of living in cities around the world.
According to a Cost of Living Index 2014 released by Numbeo, Trivandrum has bagged the position for the 3rd least expensive city in the world after Havana in Cuba and Goa.
The Cost of Living Index 2014 is based on monthly utility expenses which include electricity, water, garbage etc. As per the Numbeo data, the average monthly utility expense for Trivandrum is around $17.19.
For Goa it’s around $9.98 while for the most expensive city in the world- Glasgow in UK is $399.78. Among Indian cities Trivandrum is followed by cities like Bangalore, Kochi, Hyderabad, Vadodara, Pune and Jaipur. The most expensive Indian cities are Delhi, Chandigarh and Thane.
Numbeo uses crowd-sourced information to determine the average cost of gas, taxi ride, electricity, water, internet and other incidental expenses. Their methodology may be sound but that doesn’t mean their data is accurate. Because the site gets its data from user input, the numbers are likely to be skewed. It only gives a rough idea about the ‘average cost of living in a city’.
It’s always nice to remember that, the people entering the information on Numbeo are people who have internet and have enough free time to post on a site like that.
