Trivandrum to Have Slab-Based Service Charge For Collecting Waste From Houses!

As per the new system, three types of service charge will be present based on the type of waste management being followed in each house.

In a first, Trivandrum City Corporation will soon introduce slab based service charge system for waste management.

As per the new system, three types of service charge will be present based on the type of waste management being followed in each house.

The Slab-Based Service Charge rates are Rs 200, Rs 400 and Rs 800.

The rates are Rs 200, Rs 400 and Rs 800. For Rs200, only recyclable waste, especially plastic would be collected by the Corporation and the household should install a kitchen bin compost unit for food waste.

Under the Rs400 slab, people will have to move the household perishable waste to nearby community aerobic bin on a daily basis. This is aimed at houses where space is less and other practical difficulties which prevent installing Kitchen bins. Collection of recyclable waste will also be covered under this slab.

Under the Rs800 slab, waste will be collected directly by corporation staff. This is for households that don’t like to install home composting despite having necessary conditions.

Under the Rs400 slab, people will have to move the household perishable waste to nearby community aerobic bin on a daily basis.

A Bengaluru-based company has reached an agreement with the corporation to provide an online platform for the service. The online portal will help the civic body to keep track of the database of all households brought under the new waste management scheme.

An online portal will be available for people to raise complaints or queries or requests for service for waste management.

With this online portal, people can also raise complaints or queries or requests for service for waste management. Daily monitoring of quantity of waste being managed at house and community aerobic bins will also be done via this portal.

Trivandrum Corporation will soon conduct a survey of households so that service required for each house can be finalised and rates could be fixed accordingly. More Aero bins will come up and three staff will be deployed at each community aerobic bin round the clock. Around 15,500 aerobic bins are also ready for distribution in city wards.
