Rs.4 Crore worth Development Projects for Veli Tourist Village and Ponmudi

A state-level meeting of working group on Tourism earlier this month cleared the proposal for the renovation of Veli Tourist village.

Earlier there were plans to renovate Veli Tourist Village by the DTPC. Now more details have emerged on how DTPC is planning to renovate Veli Tourist Village.

Veli Tourist Village will be renovated at a cost of Rs.2.47 crore. The project includes development works on the swimming pool and park at Veli.

The 1.15-acre tourist village has a natural pond system and this pond will be renovated. There will be a special entrance with which people can access the new pool. DTPC is envisaging the destination as an ideal spot for pool-side parties. A water treatment plant, ticket counter, snack bar, and parking slots will be set up.

A state-level meeting of working group on Tourism earlier this month cleared the proposal for the renovation of Veli Tourist village. The government has given administrative sanction for two projects including Veli and other Ponmudi.

The work is to be executed by Kerala Tourism in 18 months and m/s GITPAC is the architect. A decision on the executing agency is yet to be taken.

Ponmudi too gets new facilities

Ponmudi will also get new facilities at a cost of Rs.2.07crore.  The Lower Sanatorium area of Ponmudi, which was lying in a neglected state, will be fully renovated.

The parking area will be renovated and sign boards and bus shelters will be made. The dilapidated tree houses and bamboo shelters will be repaired and new art sculptures will be placed in the area.

There will also be an adventure park for children, tree top view and a water fountain. With the competition of amenity centre, visitors will have facilities such as snack bar, information desk and toilet complex.
