It is reported that slow-going of the project due to unavailability of the granite boulders for construction purposes, the absence of proper government interventions, frequent strikes and failure to call review meetings led to Mahapatra’s resignation.
In a major setback for the ambitious multi-crore Vizhinjam international seaport project, Adani Ports project CEO Santosh Mahapatra resigned from his position on Friday which is a move that further hampers the progress of the construction of the dream project.
It is reported that he has resigned after being disheartened at the slow pace at which the project is progressing. However, Mr.Santosh Mahapatra said that resignation is due to personal reasons.
Rajesh Jha has been appointed as the new CEO. The company said Mahapatra will continue to remain as the advisor of Adani Ports. Mahapatra is a Gujarat cadre IAS officer.
It was Mahapatra who held talks with the state government for the project and signed the agreement.
It is reported that slow-going of the project due to unavailability of the granite boulders for construction purposes, the absence of proper government interventions, frequent strikes and failure to call review meetings led to Mahapatra’s resignation.
At present, `the construction work has almost come to a standstill because of the non-availability of granite.
Meanwhile, the government has responded that the resigning of Mahapatra is an internal affair of the Adani Group and that it will not affect the progress of the Vizhinjam project.
Adani Group had announced at the time of the singing of the contract that the construction of the first phase of the Vizhinjam port would get finished by December 2019. However, under the current situation it highly unlikely that construction work of the first phase would conclude within the time frame.
