Apothecary Malayalam Movie Review

Apothecary concentrates on the sensitive and relevant issue of medical trade and delivers a socially relevant message.

After the courtroom drama Melvilasom, Madhav Ramadasan is back with his latest movie Apothecary starring Suresh Gopi, Jayasurya and Asif Ali in the lead roles.

Apothecary is an exceptional medical thriller that focuses on the sensitive issue of medical trade, drug tests and medical trials. Apothecary digs deep into the issue without trying to include any element of masala in between.

Apothecary tells the story of Vijay Nambiar (Suresh Gopi) who is a famous neurosurgeon living happily with his wife Dr Nalini Nambiar (Abhirami) who is a gynaecologist in the same hospital. Dr Vijay happens to come across two severely ill patients Subi Joseph played by Jayasurya and Prathapan played by Asif Ali. The experience he goes through after some unexpected incidents completely changes his perspective towards his profession and life.

Performances by lead actors were brilliant. The film can boast off the good performances from Suresh Gopi,Jayasurya and Asif Ali who have given out their best to make their roles perfect. Supporting characters in pivotal roles also done a good job.

The film once again proves that a strong script is the backbone of a successful movie especially while dealing with a sensitive issue. The script by Madhav Ramadasan and Hemath Kumar is tightly packed and engaging. Director has done a brilliant job of narrating the story while keeping a flow from the beginning to the end. However, the film drags at some points.

The art-house feel of the movie (whole movie is executed inside a hospital), poor editing and repetitious background music are some of the negatives of the movie.

Apothecary concentrates on the sensitive and relevant issue of medical trade and delivers a socially relevant message. It is recommended for those who love to watch meaningful movies.
