Kalimannu Malayalam Movie Review by Akhil

The film carries a socially relevant subject and a good message. Family audience will find the movie enjoyable.

After much controversies and uncertainties, director Blessy’s movie Kalimannu has hit the theaters today. The film faced many protests for including the real delivery scene of actress Shwetha Menon.

Kalimannu tells the story of an ‘Item Dancer’- Meera, played by Shewtha Menon. The film starts with a voice over from Mammotty. Her Husband (Played by Biju Menon) dies in an accident while he was coming to watch the premier show of Meera’s first film as a heroine. Meera tries to become a mother by IVF (In vitro fertilisation) pregnancy method. The controversies, media attention and the legal issues that follow her form the rest of the story.

Kalimannu is all about the bond between a mother and her unborn child. The movie is a bold and a different attempt by the director to show a novel theme in a different manner.  The director has tried to bring out the purity of motherhood and the value of family bonding. Kalimannu also tell us about the medical aspects of pregnancy and child birth.

On the positive side, Swetha Menon has done an excellent job and has shown a bold attempt. All other supporting actors have also done their job well. Songs except the ‘Item songs” were good. Coming to the negatives, some scenes in the first half may bore you. Over use of glamour elements and item songs are a drawback of the film. Climax is also mediocre.

The film carries a socially relevant subject and a good message. Family audience will find the movie enjoyable.
