5 big releases in Malayalam this Onam, Its box office war this year

Mohanlal, Mammootty, Dileep, Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban and Biju Menon are all set to try their luck this Onam.

The Malayalam film industry is all set for a big star war this Onam with some high profile movie releases. Five big budget films of Mohanlal, Mammootty, Dileep, Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban and Biju Menon are all set to try their luck this Onam.



The highly anticipated Mohanlal starrer comedy entertainer “Peruchazhi” will be the first Onam release. The film will hit the theatres on 29 August. Mohanlal plays the role of Jagannathan, a politician, who is at loggerheads with another politician named Francis Kunjappan (Mukesh). He goes to the US and the fun begins from then on. The movie is directed by Arun Vaidhyanathan and has Aju Varghese, Baburaj, Ramesh Pisharody and Vijay Babu in supporting roles.  The film is produced by Sandra and Vijay under the banner of Friday Film House.

Mammootty’s “Rajadhi Raja” is another anticipated film which is slated for a September 5 release. According to the reports, Rajadhi Raja will be along the lines of Mammootty’s previous entertainer “Pokkiri Raja”. The film’s trailer indicates that it is meant for a mass audience with punch dialogues, action sequences and music. Scripted by Siby K Thomas and Udayakrishna Rajadhi Raja tells the story of a family man, who runs a highway restaurant. His peaceful life is marred by some unexpected turnarounds. Lakshmi Rai plays the female lead in the film.

Dileep’s “Villai Veeran” will hit the theatre on September 5. The movie is a typical Dileep film with dance, comedy and romance. Dileep plays the Siddharthan a vegetable vendor, who is trying hard to look after his family and tells the story about the relationship between father and son. The film will be a mindless comedy and Dileep – Kalabhavan Shajon combination is expected to create some laughter riot in theatres. Namitha Pramod, Mythili, Nedumudi Venu, Siddhique, Ganesh Kumar, Lalu Alex and many other actors are seen in supporting roles.

Prithviraj’s Saptamasree Taskaraha: will be released on September 6. The movie’s trailer already created an interest among the audience with the usage of Thrissur slang and dialogues filled with comedy. Directed by Anil Radhakrishnan Menon, Saptamasree Taskaraha: tells the story of seven gentlemen thieves who meet in a prison planning a heist. Other actors in the film include Asif Ali, Nedumudi Venu, Neeraj Madhav, Sudheer Karamana, Salaam Bhukhari and Chemban Vinod.

Kunchacko Boban-Biju Menon duo is one of the best combo in Malayalam film. Now they are back again in the movie Bhaiyya Bhaiyya which is slated for a September 5 release. Bhaiyya Bhaiyya is directed by Johny Antony. The lead heroine of “Bhaiyya Bhaiyya” is Nisha Aggarwal (sister of Kajal Aggarwal) and has Innocent, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Salim Kumar in pivotal roles. Other actors include Vijaya Raghavan, Shammi Thilakan, Sudhir Karamana, Thesni Khan and Ambika Mohan.
