Gangster Malayalam Movie Review By Athul

Don’t expect the movie to be anything Big B.

The much awaited movie the year Gangster, has finally hit the theatres across the world today. The movie has generated a lot of hype in social media before its release. Sadly Gangster is a big disappointment and failed to match any of the pre-release hype created among the movie buffs. Like Sagar Alias Jacky, Gangster ends up as a usual revenge drama minus the thrills.

Gangster revolves around Akbar Ali Khan, a gangster and a gang of three including Akbar who rules the Mangalore port. Akbar Khan sets up an underworld Kingdom of his own after taking revenge on his father’s murderers.  His life turns upside down when Godson Anto, a drug addict and sexual pervert arrives at Mangalore. One of the highlights of the movie is the first 20 minute animation narrating the flash back and the climax.

Ashiq Abu’s direction disappointed the viewers for presenting this film in such a bad shape. The director fails to imprint memorable and cherishable moments to the audience.

Ahmed Sidhique and Abhilash Kumar’s script is very weak and doesn’t have any engaging plot. The movie lacks sub plots or any other intriguing elements to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Ashiq Abu’s direction disappointed the viewers for presenting this film in such a bad shape. The director fails to imprint memorable and cherishable moments to the audience.

On the acting front, Mammooty looked stylish throughout but has very less dialogues and screen presence compared to the villain.  His silent manners failed to captivate the audiences. The two female leads, Aparna Gopinath and Nyla Usha also does not have any major role to play. However, the antagonist played by Shekar Menon has done a brilliant job. Other actors John Paul, Kunjan, TG Ravi and Haresh Peradi did their respective roles quite well. Cinematography and the editing of the film are worth mentioning. The one song composed by Deepak Dev was a good track but it does not have a full version in the film.

Bottom Line: Don’t expect the movie to be anything Big B

Verdict: Below Average
Rating: 4 / 10
