Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty movie review by Praveen

Mohanlal's cameo role was a highlight of the film and it thrilled the audience for a while.

After Bavuttiyude Namathil, Mammootty – Renjith team is back with Kadal Kadanoru Mathukutty. It was one of the most-hyped Malayalam film in 2013. The cameo roles by Mohanlal and Dileep have soared up the filmgoers’ expectations to sky-high. However, the director fails to recreate the magic of Pranchiyettan on the screen.

Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty‘ is the story of an un-employed German Malayali, Mathukutty, who comes to Kerala to invite the leading superstars in Malayalam (Mohanlal and Dileep), for a cultural show that is being organised by the German Malayalis. He gets himself entangled with various Socio-Political issues and how those changes affect his life forever forms the crux of the story. Renjith tries to convey the message that we are not in control of our destiny.

The film began well with giving hopes that this might turn out to be another ‘Pranchiyettan’, but once the initial fun was over there was nothing left in the movie. The second half of the movie gets lagging. The occasional one or two wits keeps the audience entertained, however during the 2nd half the character gets lost in the crowd.

Mohanlal‘s cameo role was a highlight of the film and it thrilled the audience for a while. Mammooty has done his part well, but there is nothing to perform for an actor of his calibre. All other characters especially Nedumudi Venu has done justice to their roles. Madhu Neelakandan’s cinematography was also good.

The direction, script and the songs are the main drawbacks of the film. It’s hard to believe that the film is directed by Ranjith.

Bottom Line: Don’t go in with too much expectation or you might get bored!
